Terms Of Use

The short version

AltSounds.tv is a free music-video discovery service. We don’t host the videos — we organize them and point you to them on YouTube. You don’t need an account to watch. We collect very little about you, and most of what powers your experience never leaves your browser. These Terms explain the deal between you and us. Please read them.

1. Who we are

AltSounds.tv (the “Service”) is operated by AltSounds Ltd, 151 Grove Street, Clifton, NJ 07013, USA (“AltSounds,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use (“Terms”). If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

2. What the Service is — and what it isn’t

AltSounds is a curated guide and database for music videos. The videos themselves are hosted by third parties — primarily YouTube — and are played through their embedded players. We do not host, store, or stream the video content itself. We organize, index, and present metadata (artists, directors, genres, decades, and related information) and provide tools to discover and play videos that are publicly available on those third-party platforms. When you play a video, you are also interacting with that third party’s player and are subject to their terms and privacy practices. Your use of YouTube-powered features is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. By using the Service, you confirm you meet these requirements.

4. Accounts and the waitlist

The Service does not currently offer public user accounts. You can browse and watch without registering. If you join our waitlist, you provide an email address and an optional indication of which future tier (Free, Plus, or Pro) interests you, so we can notify you when accounts become available. Joining the waitlist creates no account and no obligation on either side. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle that email.

5. Acceptable use

We keep the rules short. When using the Service, you agree not to:
  • Scrape, harvest, crawl, or systematically extract our database, metadata, or other content except as expressly permitted in writing;
  • Use bots, scripts, or automated means to access the Service in a way that burdens our infrastructure or circumvents rate limits;
  • Attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with security or access-control features, or probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service;
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
  • Reproduce, republish, or redistribute substantial portions of our curated database or metadata as a competing product;
  • Misuse the “Report video” tool or submit deliberately false reports;
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to infringe anyone’s rights.
Our full content rules live in our Acceptable Use Policy.

6. Our content and intellectual property

The Service’s design, layout, original text, curation, database structure, software, branding, logos, and the “AltSounds” name are owned by AltSounds Ltd or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, revocable, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for your own non-commercial enjoyment. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of anything to you. The music videos, artwork, and recordings accessible through the Service belong to their respective rights holders. Their appearance in our index does not imply any endorsement of, or affiliation with, AltSounds.

7. Copyright and takedowns

Because we index and embed third-party content, we take copyright seriously and operate a notice-and-takedown process. If you believe material indexed on the Service infringes your copyright, see our Copyright / DMCA Policy. Note that the actual video files reside on YouTube; a complete removal of the underlying video is handled by YouTube, while we can remove the embed and metadata entry from our index.

8. Future paid tiers

The Service is currently free. We may introduce paid subscription tiers (such as the Plus and Pro tiers referenced on the Service) in the future. If and when we do, we will present the applicable prices, billing terms, and cancellation rights to you before you are charged, and your purchase will be governed by additional subscription terms presented at that time. No payment is collected today, and indicating tier interest on the waitlist does not create any payment obligation.

9. Third-party services and links

The Service relies on and links to third-party services — including YouTube, Google Fonts, and content sourced or referenced from public sources such as Wikipedia. We don’t control these services and aren’t responsible for their content, availability, or practices. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular video or metadata will remain available, since third-party content can be removed or change at any time without notice to us.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, AltSounds Ltd and its officers, directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed one hundred US dollars (US $100). Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AltSounds Ltd from any claims, damages, losses, and reasonable legal fees arising out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have breached these Terms or to protect the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 6, 10, 11, 12, and 14) will survive.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York and applicable US federal law (including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act), without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree that the state and federal courts located in New York, New York will have jurisdiction over any dispute that is not otherwise resolved, and you consent to venue there. Before filing anything, please contact us at info@altsounds.tv — most issues can be sorted out informally, and we’d genuinely rather resolve it that way.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide a more prominent notice on the Service. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
