The short version

We built AltSounds to collect as little about you as possible, and we mean it:

• No account required. You can watch everything without signing up.
• Most of your experience lives in your own browser. Your watch history, search history, and the personalization that powers recommendations are stored on your device — not on our servers — and you can clear them any time.
• The only personal detail we ask for is an email, and only if you choose to join our waitlist.
• No advertising trackers. No Meta pixel, no TikTok pixel, no Hotjar, no data brokers. None of it.
• We never sell your data. Full stop.

The rest of this policy explains the details, including the one thing we can’t control: once you press play, you’re interacting with YouTube, and Google’s privacy practices apply.

1. Who we are

AltSounds.tv is operated by AltSounds Ltd, 151 Grove Street, Clifton, NJ 07013, USA. For privacy questions, contact us at info@altsounds.tv. We are the controller of the limited personal data described below.

2. What we collect, and where it lives

(a) Information stored on your device only

To make AltSounds feel personal without building a profile of you on our servers, we keep most things in your browser’s local storage. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us, except as noted in (c) below. It includes:

• Your watch history and recently-played videos;
• Your search history;
• Personalization signals (anonymous “taste” scores and preferences that shape what we surface for you);
• Interface preferences and an anonymous browser identifier (a random ID we generate — not tied to your name or email).

You can erase all of this at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for AltSounds.tv.

(b) Information you give us

If you join our waitlist, we collect the email address you provide and your optional tier interest (Free, Plus, or Pro). We use this only to notify you when accounts or those features become available. We store this on our own servers and do not share it with any third-party email or marketing platform. You can ask us to delete it at any time (see Section 7).

(c) Information collected automatically (anonymous)

To understand which videos and features are popular and to improve discovery, we record anonymous usage events — such as plays, shuffles, tile clicks, and completions — tied to the random browser identifier described above. These records do not include your IP address or your name, and they are not used to identify you. A small amount of recently-watched video IDs is sent to our server so we can avoid repeating the same videos when you shuffle. We keep these anonymous usage records for up to 90 days, after which they are deleted.

(d) Location (only if you allow it)

Certain optional features — like the weather and local-time widgets — ask your browser for your location. Your browser will show you a permission prompt, and this only happens if you say yes. We cache the result on your device to power those widgets and do not use it for tracking. You can deny or revoke this permission in your browser settings at any time.

(e) Server logs

Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider maintains standard technical server logs for security and reliability. These are held by our host and used only for operating and protecting the Service.

3. Video playback — YouTube and Google

This is the most important third-party relationship to understand. AltSounds does not host any video. Videos play through YouTube’s embedded player. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com mode, which reduces — but does not fully eliminate — the data YouTube collects before you interact with a video.

The moment you play a video, you are interacting with YouTube, and Google may collect data about that interaction under its own policies, independent of us. Your use of these features is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google’s handling of your data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review them. You can manage Google’s use of your data at Google’s account controls.

4. Other third parties

• Google Fonts — we load fonts from Google’s font CDN, which involves a request to Google’s servers to deliver the fonts.
• Cloudflare CDN (cdnjs) — we load a couple of common open-source JavaScript libraries from a public asset CDN.
• Google Analytics — we may use Google Analytics to understand aggregate, anonymized traffic patterns. Where this is active, Google sets analytics cookies as described in our Cookie Policy. We do not use Analytics for advertising, and we do not run any advertising or social-media tracking pixels.
• Hosting — the Service is hosted in the United States by our hosting provider, which processes data on our behalf to deliver the site.

5. How we use information

We use the limited data above only to: operate, maintain, and secure the Service; personalize your discovery experience (mostly on your own device); understand aggregate usage so we can improve; and contact waitlist subscribers when accounts or features launch. We do not use your data for behavioral advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.

6. Sharing

We don’t sell your personal information. We share data only: with service providers (like our US hosting provider) acting on our behalf; when required by law or valid legal process; or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), in which case we’ll ensure this policy’s protections continue to apply.

7. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can:

• Clear your on-device data by clearing site data for AltSounds.tv in your browser;
• Leave the waitlist / delete your email by contacting info@altsounds.tv;
• Control location and cookies through your browser settings.

US residents (including California): We do not sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, so there is nothing to opt out of — but you may still request access to or deletion of the limited personal data we hold (your waitlist email) by contacting us. We won’t discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

UK and EU residents (courtesy notice): Although AltSounds is operated for a US audience on US-based servers, we respect equivalent rights. You may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of the personal data we hold about you, and you may object to certain processing. Our lawful bases are your consent (waitlist email; location) and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the Service (anonymous usage data). 8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us an email, contact us and we’ll delete it.

9. Security and retention

We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we hold. We keep waitlist emails until you ask us to remove them or until they’re no longer needed for their purpose; anonymous usage records are deleted after up to 90 days; and on-device data persists until you clear it.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide more prominent notice on the Service.
