Directed by: G. S. Martin
Nanny State’ is the debut E.P. from Lockhead and Dogrock. A new video and music project by Scottish producer, musician and filmmaker G. S. Martin. He started making his own music in the early 2000s releasing it with Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art’s record label, Disparc, under the the name ‘New Dawn’ then with London based independent, Gamma Proforma, in the latter part of the decade and into the 2010s as ‘Old Man of the Forest. ‘
Lockhead and Dogrock’s stripped back, no nonsense sound – predominantly upright bass, keys and drums. Is a departure from his earlier synth based works. Featuring collaborations with vocalist Jennifer Culross on the title track and poet Inditer Reciter for ‘Machine’. This collection draws on a wide spectrum of funk and soul influences but with a hefty slice of jazz thrown into the mix, a nod towards the crate diggers, pioneers the likes of Dilla, Madlib and Premier – to name a few, who taught us that sampling is an art form in its self.
