Josh Flagg – Lights Out
Josh Flagg – Lights Out (2015)
Directed by: Andree Ljutica
New York based indie rocker Josh Flagg shares the music video for “Lights Out,” the title track off his recent Lights Out EP.
Tackling themes of acceptance and identity, Flagg describes “Lights Out” as a song about, “who you are when the lights go out and you’re not putting a face on for anyone.” To bring this feeling to life, the video sees a diverse mix of men and women lip syncing direct to camera, while a single lightbulb flashes in and out of frame until it eventually explodes and leaves everyone in darkness.
Recorded at Mission Sound in Brooklyn and produced by Kieran Kelly (Sufjan Stevens, Better Than Ezra), Flagg sought to create full bodied songs that capture the spirit of the lyrics within the music. Featuring a three pronged guitar attack, soaring vocals, and asymmetrical songwriting, Lights Out offers darker, harder, and more complex songs than the power-pop gems on Flagg’s debut full length Devastate Me (2013).
