Directed by: Dillon O’Neal & Chris Lowery
Jake McMullen‘s debut EP Always is now released and streaming viaSpringsteen Lockeland who said, “texturing his old-soul lyrics with sweeping melodies, acoustic strums and steel rings, Jake has carefully, but honestly, articulated his first-person character in a way that allows you to find coextensive qualities in your own story. There is an openness in his songs, a kind of hollowness that doesn’t seek fulfillment and one that lives in the body of his guitar and the thick of his voice.” Read their full write up and listen to Always HERE. McMullen will play a record release party on October 22 at The Basementin Nashville.
At the young age of 22 he is already making a name for himself with the previousl release of two singles – the title track and “If I Go. He has also done a session for Balcony TV which you can listen to here.
“(‘If I Go’) lets you reflect on your own past misfortunes, and McMullen’s soft tones and emotional melodies give that extra tug on the heartstrings.” said Pasteand reviewing “Always” tastemaker station WXPN noted “it’s a tenderly sung and played introspective song, reminiscent of David Gray, however McMullen has his own hymnal, yet somber approach to the song.” Consequence of Sound have also written about McMullen saying he, “crafts indie rock that relies heavily on folkier stylings, much like Ryan Adams or A.A. Bondy. How he articulates his tales of ‘the hunt for tranquility amidst our inner chaos’ in his rumbly voice, however, is what sets him apart”
