Foreign Diplomats reveal suspense-filled ‘Lies (of November)’ video following debut album Princess Flash release via Indica Records (Phantogram, Half Moon Run).

Produced by Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, The Shins, Counting Crows), the track echoes “the exasperation and impatience felt towards a situation in front of which you are truly powerless” explains frontman Elie Raymond. “It is very intense in the mood and in the lyrics” he adds, “even in the construction of the song itself” which ends with a fitting antithesis.

Director Didier Charette (Roméo & Fils), who is also credited for Tokyo Police Club, Lisa Leblanc, and Pomo music videos amongst others, “brilliantly managed to instil the images with the song’s sense of helplessness” says Raymond. Inspired by the likes of American Psycho or Jaws’ play on suspense, tension and rhythm, the video follows an up-and-coming chef’s descent into darkness. The viewer, entrapped in the storyline, can only dreadfully anticipate the outcome of his growing violent urges. “I wanted to reflect the idea of people gorging themselves with a desired hype or fame, and yet have to cope with their demons, sometimes going over the edge in doing so” explains Didier Charette.

Hailing from the Laurentians in Quebec (CA), Foreign Diplomats’ band members get acquainted during their teenage years. Founded in 2010, it is upon the sight of an airport sign that the band finds its name. Based in Montreal, their indie/pop, electrofunk groove quickly catches independent record label Indica Records’ attention.

The promise shown by the band convinces the label to seal its relationship with Foreign Diplomats in 2013 and release their self-titled EP in June of the same year. This recording leads the band to perform at famed Montreal’s International Jazz Festival and Expo Québec, showcase at industry darling M for Montreal as well as open for enviable acts including Phantogram, Half Moon Run, Violent Femmes and Alex Nevsky.

The fall of 2014 sees Foreign Diplomats make their way to The Bathouse Recording Studio, enlisting Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, The Shins, Counting Crows) to produce their debut album Princess Flash, released on October 9, 2015 via Indica Records.
