Boogarins – Tempo
Boogarins – Tempo (2016)
Directed by: Owen Mack
Following the band’s successful headlining slot of the Vodafone Stage at Rock in Rio Lisboa, Boogarins are back to share with their fans a new video they, the fans, helped create.
The lyrics to “Tempo” speak about stopping time and freeing yourself from the everyday grind of work and school and escaping the pressures of daily life, and for the video, the band called out to their fans to help illustrate the point. They reached out to their fans on social media, and asked them shoot footage of two different moods; first, “man’s world,” full of soul-crushing images of urban life and responsibilities; second, images of your sanctuary — friends, nature, music, art, and anything that makes you feel open and free. They received hundreds of submissions, which were then crafted into a coherent whole by director Owen Mack of Cobrandit Films, including hundreds of images and sounds collected by Boogarins fans across Brazil and around the world.
“There is a Brazilian psychedelic-rock tradition, for sure. But Boogarins doesn’t sound beholden to the documents of it. It’s not a band of formalists doing homage work… “Manual” connect(s) generally to plenty of things: to the Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows,” recorded nearly exactly 50 years ago, and then to early Pink Floyd, and out into 1990s postrock and the current international neo-psychedelic map of bands like Dungen and Temples.” – Ben Ratliff, The New York Times
Boogarins are returning to North America for Levitation Vancouver and a handful of West Coast dates, followed by a July residency at Hotel Vegas in Austin.
